To Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727) is attributed the saying If I have seen a little farther than others it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants." According to E.T. Bell, among the tallest of these giants were Rene Descartes (1596-1650), Johann Kepler (1571-1630), and Galileo Galilei (1564-1642).
