WHY TOP 26. There was a tie for positions 23, 24, 25, and 26. We ranked each of these law schools at position 24.5 (24.5 is the average of 23, 24, 25, and 26).
Some Invariants. Looking at the 2009-2012 Rankings, we see that the top law school (Yale), the top three law schools, the top four law schools, the top thirteen law schools, the top fifteen, top seventeen law schools, and the top nineteen law schools have not changed; albeit the ordering of the law schools within these groups may have changed.
The most impressive score improvement from 2009 to 2012 by a 2012 Top 26 Law School. I consider the most impressive achievement to be that of U Chicago. U Chicago increased its score by 10, from 80 to 90; the most it could have increased its score being 20, from 80 to 100. That is, U Chicago increased its score by 50 percent (10/20 = .50) of its potential increase. By comparison, UC Davis increased its score by 13, from 54 to 67; with the most it could have increased its score being 46, from 54 to 100. That is, UC Davis increased its score by approximately 28 percent 13/46=.282... of its potential increase.
Two impressive improvement into the the Top 26 from 2009 to 2012. Both UC Davis and Indiana U (Bloomington) just made the 2012 top 26 coming in with rank 24.5. In 2009, UC Davis was positioned at 44.5 and Indiana at 36.5.
Greatest rank decline of a 2009 Top 25 Law School. Emory U went from 23.5 in 2009 to 32 in 2012.
Best improvement within the top 25 from 2011 to 2012.U Minnesota increased its score by 4 and its rank by 3, which solidified its position within the top 25.
